makemepulse has designed and built XOX, an interactive tic tac toe (noughts and crosses) experience where play meets digital craftsmanship.
At its core, the project revisits a familiar game, transforming it through considered design, motion, and performance into a fast, responsive, and visually crafted interaction. The result is an experience that invites users to engage, replay, and compete, while showcasing a refined approach to simplicity.
Developed internally between larger productions, XOX created space to explore new creative directions. The project marks a deliberate move into a 2D visual language, stepping away from the studio’s established 3D work, while also pushing real-time interactions using WebGL.
Beyond its technical execution, XOX was conceived as a playground for ideas; an opportunity to test, refine, and challenge how quickly and effectively engaging digital experiences can be built. Working as a fully remote team, it also became a shared moment of collaboration, bringing together designers and developers to create something immediate and expressive.
The project reflects a broader aspect of makemepulse’s creative approach. While known for delivering complex, large-scale digital experiences, the studio places equal importance on clarity, rhythm, and the details that make an interaction feel alive.
By reinterpreting a universally recognised format, XOX demonstrates that impactful experiences do not rely on complexity alone. Instead, it highlights how speed, precision, and craft can come together to create something both accessible and engaging.
With XOX, makemepulse offers a more open and human expression of its work — one that is playful, approachable, and built to be experienced by a wider audience.
